The French often enjoy an infusion after dinner. These are usually delicate and soporific and are meant to help digest and go to sleep.
I went through a phase—I was desperately poor—of drinking verbena tea, more as a means of consuming sugar than anything else.
One afternoon, I invited some friends up for some verveine, and they broke out into wild hysterics. Apparently, at least in those days, verbena tea was something grandmothers served, not young American men.
Verbena is used extensively in perfumery. I like it when I need a citrus note but without the sometimes aggressive nature of citrus itself.
