Amber Eau de Parfum, Brooklyn Perfume Company

from $50.00

Amber is a confusing subject. There’s ambergris, sometimes called simply “amber;” an accord made with labdanum that is often called amber; and a number of aroma chemicals often defined as amber. But this perfume is made from the distilled amber we wear as jewelry. Not many perfumers work with it because by itself it smells, well, burnt. When combined, however, with sweet and balsamic compounds, this dissonance becomes very inviting. It’s very persistent, woody and animalic. It is not, however, a traditional perfume (I don’t really know why; it just smells different) and may not be for everyone. It is indeed unorthodox.
