Rich, gorgeous. What did people smell like in the 1920s? They must have smelled magnificent as perfumers included so many things that are taboo today—musk, civet, a high percentage of naturals—in intoxicating combinations. The closest I ever got to experience those heady days, was when my mother wore her perfumes from the 30s and 40s. Those perfumes that were so excitingly good and then they’d wear off and she would stink of musk. I never wanted her to wash it off.
