Oarweed Absolute
I discovered this exotic seaweed when researching for my ambergris perfume, and decided to include it in my formula. It’s different than regular seaweed absolute, which is distinctly oceanic in its own way. Oarweed, however, has a delicacy and almost sweetness that it unites with its marine character.
Given that only one source had it and given its scarcity, I bought enough that my supply wouldn’t be interrupted. Now, the company that sold it to me (Hermitage) only sells tiny samples since they’ve virtually run out. I can’t find it anywhere else.
I stole this from the Hermitage site: “Joseph Colbourne has this to say: ‘The ultimate marine note, oarweed absolute, reminds me of being at the seashore, seeking out starfish and sand dollars. The brine of ocean water and impressions of all that lives in the sea—the fish and various flora are captured in the opening. As it dries on the mouillette, this evolves into a calmer, smoky aroma of seaweed and driftwood drying in the blazing sun. A clear liquid of pourable viscosity, this absolute demonstrates a longevity of twelve hours. Naturally, this is a winner for marine/aquatic blends and can also enhance oakmoss and other mosses. Furthermore, it can provide unique dimension for leather accords.’”
